Use disassembly production for repair a product

Hi,
We often deal with repairs of products. The scenario is:

  • A product comes back because of a defect in one of its components.

  • In the repair process, the same product enters and leaves the production.

  • Additionally, some replacement components are consumed.

So in practice:

  • Input: the defective product + some components.

  • Output: the same product, now repaired.

Now with the new Support disassembly BOM, I was wondering:

  • Could this new feature be used (or adapted) to cover our repair use case?

We also thought about modeling a repair as disassembly + assembly:

  • First, disassemble the defective product into all its parts.

  • Then, assemble it again with the good parts + new replacement parts.
But we are not sure if this makes sense in practice, especially for cost and usability, as in repairs the product cost shouldn’t be updated.

So I would like to know if you think the new disassembly type can cover repair needs?

Thanks beforehand.

I do not see the point to disassemble the product into parts except if you do not plan to reassemble it.

I do not agree with this. If a product needs some repair, this increase its cost at least with the cost of the spare parts used (and probably also the work).
