Why the start period date is used as effective date of the move?

By default tryton uses the current period start date as effective date of the move.
I’m wondering which is the reasoning about it.

For me it is more intuitive to use today’s date, as I normally create the move and then post it straight forward.

Thoughts?

This is because the period is not necessary the current period so today maybe outside the period.
Also it was design with the workflow of filling the date first before the period.

Yes but for the current period (which is the default when creating a move) it makes more sense to use today date.

But using the right a good default will prevent the user to modify the date for every move.

I agree with @pokoli. Today’s date is normally the expected value for users as default value.
