Why is the general ledger not good for you?
The problem of the GL is that you just have a list of accounts that doesn’t mean anything without any sub-total or differentiation between balance sheet and profit and loss. Ideally a vision a the chart of account where you can decide the period you are interested in, would be much more helpfull.
There are balance sheet and income statement.
Each report has its own filters depending of the relevance some are based on date other on period.
