Preface
This post is a shared attempt by @herrdeh and @rmartin. It is an attempt to find a structured method for improvements in Tryton. If it succeeds, it may serve as a blueprint for further such projects.
The Task
The pricelist module in Tryton is subject to some shortcomings:
- it cannot produce a report, eg in LibO Writer, so nicely layouted customers’ catalogues cannot be created with ease
- it cannot export product images to such catalogue
- it cannot display scaled prices (Staffelpreise) in the catalogue
We want to achieve implementations of the above features, to be published as one or several module(s) at Tryton community.
Proceeding
We are convinced that above features are of general interest. For this reason, we want to start a sort of tendering process (Ausschreibung). In distinction from ordinary tenders, this one is two-faced - we are calling for bidders and for more funders at the same time.
Steps
- precise description of the task, taking into account considerations from the community
- bids and funding contribution offers are sent via PM to @herrdeh
- award to the best bidder (agreement of funders must be achieved)
- programming work
- evaluation by funders
- publishing at Tryton community for free use for everybody
This description may sound a little vague. This is done on purpose, so the community (hopefully) is encougraged to contribute their insights.
Conditions
Bidder must bindingly agree to
- provide pypi packages
- pass all tests at Tryton community
- maintain the modules until Tryton 8.0 (including)
- resolve upcoming issues until Tryton 8.0 (including)
- provide sufficient user documentation to the extend that the average Tryton user can handle it
- provide Genshi code examples for all features so the experienced Tryton user can create and modify the Writer template
To get things started, each of us is offering a share of 150€, so a total of 300€, for this project.
Cheers,
Richard & Wolf
