You can just edit the binary field in the report menu. Tryton will store it in the database and use this one instead of the template stored on the filesystem.

The easiest thing is to touch invoice.odt in the original folder, save and see the invoice report in Tryton, which would already come out with the new design.

I would not recommend to edit source code as this will be lost on the next update.
