Desktop Client vs Web Client navigating Products<->BOMs (do I understand correctly?)

Hi all, I’d like to confirm I’m correctly navigating from products to BOMs and back to products. and in this case, if the web client actually provides a superior user experience.

I won’t type everything out as the pictures are really telling the story.

  1. Access a Product Variant that has a BOM

  1. Access BOMs

  1. Select BOMs for which the Variant is listed as an Output

  1. Navigate to a different Input on the BOM

  1. Notice the Desktop Client shows a selector while the Web Client shows the Product Variant (if I understand correctly)

6.Follow the product link in the Desktop Client and reach a dead-end. However, with the Web Client, the Related Records button is still available and you can keep navigating to products and BOMs without end.

Is this the expected behavior of the Desktop Client vs Web Client? Should I be using a different work flow?

Thanks!
Dale

This is because on the web client you opening the link to the product and not the input line.
In the web client to open a line, you need not click on any of its link or you can select the row and click on the “Open” button in the toolbar of the One2Many list.

If you open just the dialog but you can open a new tab for the product if you click on the “Open” icon with CTRL pressed. This is the equivalent action to opening the Many2One link from the list view of the web client.

Yes we need to have small different workflow between desktop and web because of limitation specific to each platform.

Is this the dialog you are referring to? If so, holding CTRL before clicking does not seem to make a difference. The result is the same as the first screenshot - a new popup window (not a new tab) with no “Related Records” button. I expect I am not understanding you correctly.

Indeed the CTRL click is for the web client. On the desktop client, you can use the contextual menu “Edit” with a right-click.

Thanks ced.

Should others wander this way…

From a BOM (starting after Step 3 in my original post), you can:

  1. Edit BOM line details: Product, Quantity and/or Unit (UoM).

In the Desktop client, double-click BOM line to edit line details. In the Web client, select the line and click the Open button.

Or…

  1. View/Edit the Variant listed in the BOM line e.g. to access product documentation (attached links to documents in a DMS), OEM Mfr PN (Variant Attribute), Suppliers, past POs, stock on hand, other BOMs the Variant is listed on, etc.

In the Desktop client, access the context menu for the BOM line and select Product > Edit. In the Web client, left-click the BOM line.

Cheers!

Hold CTRL and click here? I get the same thing (Edit BOM line) holding CTRL and not holding CTRL. Fwiw I’m using the latest Windows client (7.2.7).
